Double shower heads are ones in which there are two sprayer heads instead of the traditional one sprayer attached to the wall. However, beyond have two sprayer heads, the arrangement and placement of these sprayer heads will differ depending on the brand and model of shower head that is purchased. There are so many configurations that the double shower heads can be placed in, such as one above the other, side by side, one at the top of the shower and one in the middle as a body sprayer, one fixed and one removable or even one on each end of the shower cubicle. Adding an additional shower head into your shower provides you with endless options to customize it into the perfect shower for you and your family.
However, with double shower heads comes the increase in water usage. There are a number of concerns that arise in this situation. The first is that in many places there are regulations on the amount of water that can flow through your shower head per minute. When you have double shower heads there is some confusion about whether or not the combined total for both shower heads must be under the regulation limit or whether each shower head is allowed to have that much water flow through it. For example, let’s pretend that the limit for our local area is 2.5 gallons per minute. There is some disagreement currently about whether that means each shower head can produce 2.5 gallons per minute or whether the combines total of all the shower heads must not exceed 2.5 gallons per minute. As you can tell, the answer to this question would greatly effect the water flow that you receive from the shower heads.
Secondly, even if the regulations allow the maximum amount for each shower head, when introducing double shower heads you are also increasing the amount of water that you are using when you shower. This is a problem both financially and environmentally. There are concerns about water usage and the harm that is has on the environment. That’s why there are a number of water fixtures that are now made to be low-flow or to have reduced water consumption. By using two shower heads you are bypassing this safeguard for the environment. Financially, if you are living in a place where your water bill is not covered in your rent or maintenance fees, you have to be careful that you are not increasing your bill too much. By using double shower heads you are increasing your water usage and therefore increasing the amount that you would be paying on your water bill. While double shower heads may be relaxing in the calm of your shower, they might not be that relaxing when you get the bill in.
Finally, let’s quickly take a look at some of the advantages of a double shower head:
- More water flow – however you have the two shower heads arranged, there are two streams of water allowing you to get more water to you per minute and to enlarge the area that the water is reaching. No more trouble with having some of your body cold outside of the stream of warm water.
- More options – you can really customize the shower to suit your needs when you have double shower heads. You can have one set to a stronger massaging stream while the other is on a relaxing spray setting.
- (For the adults) More space to share – when you want to take a shower with your significant other, there is more water flow for you to share. Therefore it makes it easier for both of you to be within the warmth of the water at the same time.
When deciding whether or not to get a double shower head installed, it is often really easy to think about the advantages that you would get from it. However, there are also some disadvantages that you also have to think about such as the regulations and the increase in water usage. Whatever choice you make, you will have to weigh the pros and cons and make the decision that is best for you and your lifestyle.
